Green Gram

In Indian vegetarian recipes legumes or pulses are important with every meal. Be it with rice or Indian breads. Today we will prepare whole green gram.

Ingredients:

  • one bowl of green gram
  • 2 tbsp desi ghee/ butter
  • 1 tsp cummin and mustard seeds
  • 1/2 inch of grated ginger
  • one no. of onion and tomato(chopped)
  • red chilli powder
  • one lemon
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • salt to taste
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • pinch of asfoetida

Preparation :

First of all wash and soak green gram for 4-5 hours. Then cook it in pressure cooker. Meanwhile we will prepare tadka. Heat one tbsp of ghee in a pan and add cummin seeds, mustard seeds and asfoetida. Then saute grated ginger and chopped onion. When onion get golden brown add tomatoes and saute it too. Now add other spices. If green gram get cooked add it into tadka pan and add little water in it. At verr low flame stir it for 10-15 mins. Now switch off the flame and add lemon juice and remaining ghee. Serve it with rice or any Indian bread.
